Preparing for a Pediatric CT Scan

Head CT

No prep is necessary.

Sinus CT

No prep is necessary.

Abdomen, Liver, Kidneys and/or Pelvis CT

Drink three to five glasses of clear liquids the day before the exam. Refrigerate the barium you were given. Do not eat or drink anything after midnight. Drink half of the bottle of barium two hours before the exam. Drink the other half of the bottle one hour before the exam.

Chest CT

Drink three to five glasses of clear liquids the day before the exam.

Spine CT

No prep is necessary.

Neck CT

Drink three to five glasses of clear liquids the day before the exam.
